At Mafs we collaborate with the local government to ensure all of the local dogs get right vaccinations for example rabies, Parvo, Distemper and more. We organize free vaccination days at the local clinic, and free vaccinations in the villages surrounding Bentota.

At Mafs, we work closely with local vets and authorities to control the stray dog population humanely through castration. By organizing regular castration days, we help reduce street dog suffering, and promote healthier, calmer dog communities. Our services are offered free of charge for local street dogs for low-income families owning a dog or cat.

When we come across dogs in need, whether they are injured, unvaccinated, or unneutered, we safely catch them, provide the necessary medical treatment, vaccinations, and/or castration, and then release them back to their original area or home. This ensures every dog continues to belong where it feels safe, while receiving the care it needs to live a healthier life.

Some dogs cannot safely return to the streets due to injury, abandonment, or unsafe conditions. In these cases, Mafs provides shelter, care, and rehabilitation while actively seeking loving, responsible homes. Our goal is to match each dog with a family that will provide safety, kindness, and a lifelong home.

To support the wellbeing of street dogs in Bentota, we run daily feeding rounds using a combination of donated hotel food waste (where safe and appropriate) and high-quality dog food we purchase. This ensures that local dogs stay nourished, and helps us monitor their health.
